Isla and the Happily Ever After By Stephanie Perkins | Book Review

Hi,

Isla and the Happily Ever After

Do you think this picture looks a bit tilted? Or am I the only one feeling like that? I don't know but somehow, I feel it is tilt to the left? Whatever. Just leave it like that hahaha :p Anyway, I manage to finish reading 'Isla and the Happily Ever After' for less than 4 days! Yay! And it is time for the review! Are you excited? If you are, I shall start reviewing it now!

Synopsis

Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on introspective cartoonist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year back in France, Isla and Josh are forced to confront the challenges every young couple must face, including family drama, uncertainty about their futures, and the very real possibility at being apart.

Review

First of all, honestly this story is the book 3, I supposed, I should be reading Lola and the Boy Next Door before reading this but you know, I being ridiculously annoying of myself that I chose this book first to read before the book 2. Anyway, it's okay, it doesn't have any relation but at the end of the chapter, the writer did mention the characters' name from the second book, thus, I got a bit confused, like who are they? Then, I was like, 'oh..they are this and this..", so..yeah.

So, what do I think about this novel? Well, overall the story really great, it is sweet, romantic, lovely but also it also played with our emotion - painful, sad, angry, heartbroken. All in this one story. Honestly, from my point of view, the story about Isla and Josh wasn't as great and sweet as compared to Anna and Ettiene but again, not every couple has a same sweet, love story, isn't it? Correct me, if I'm wrong but it is my point of view. I love the way Stephanie Perkins trying to portray all of the characters from each of her novels.

What I love even more about this novel is that, the way Stephanie Perkins tell us about the beautiful city that the characters' live in and all the place they travel - Paris, Barcelona, though they live in NY/DC but there is not much story about the place they live at. But that's that.

Next, let's talk about the characters. Isla, she is kind of having a big crush on Josh since their freshmen year. She's like an obsessive kind of crush toward Josh? I don't know because somehow when they were in a relationship her studies did affect by it, her grades going down and weren't really focus in the class because her mind is only full of Josh. While, Josh, he is in his own world - arts, of course, since he is a great cartoonist(I can feel it :p). Not really care about other things, not until, he got this chance to get close to Isla and tadaaa, they are together - being in this sudden relationship and it does make me confused somehow, does he really have a feeling for her at the first place? Is he has a crush on since on their freshmen year? Hmm? A bit confusing, but if you have finished reading this novel, do share with me, your opinion about it, okay? :D

Anyway, I'm not going to spill too much info about the story, because I'm afraid that the story would not be going to surprise you as what I feel, in which, what I mean is, those kinds of feeling of not knowing what is the stories are all about - because you won't like it if there's too much spoiler, didn't you? As you need to have those excitement feels in order for you to read any novels, isn't it? Do you get what I mean, isn't it? hiks

Okay back to the story, lastly, the story really did affect me emotionally - it makes me laugh, smile and cry. I did cry when the two get into this really big fight and when Isla feel empty, sad, miserable, I do feel those feelings and I cried! Gosh!  and that's why you need to read it! :)

  1. Josh's character looks interesting! If Josh is a famous artist, maybe I will think Isla is just fan-girling towards Josh.

    p/s - I haven't read this tho. :)
