Synopsis
Alice Bell has one goal: to play for the elite junior hockey team the Chicago Falcons. With her amazing skills on the ice, Alice is sure she’ll fit in easily. That is until she starts falling for one of her teammates…
Hayden Tremblay, star of the Falcons, can’t keep himself out of the penalty box. Constantly living in the shadow of his older brother, Hayden’s losing his passion for hockey. But when he gets shown up on the ice by the Falcons’ new rookie, Hayden’s determined to teach the kid a thing or two. Little does he guess that “Al’s” surprises on the ice are just the beginning.
Ice skating is one of my favorite sport and knowing that this book has the sport that I love even though it wasn't a full ice skating-kind-of-thing in here but still, they skates and that's all matters. The moment I read the synopsis I know this book going to give me the happiness that I want from it and to assure I really do love this story! Let me tell you why.
Have you ever watch She's the Man movie? or maybe if you a fan of Korean drama, you might have watch Coffee Prince even though, in this drama it is all about a cafe slightly different from this book but still, it is almost the same. Why? Because the girl in the movie and drama for some reason they disguising as a boy. It is exactly the same happened in Just One of the Boys.
Briefly, Just One of the Boys is about Alice Bell who is so into hockey games and she is a great hockey player and she has a twin brother, Alexander. So, both of them go for tryouts for Chicago Falcons and she has been selected to be on the team but only got rejected after the coach realize, she is a girl thus Alexander got to be in team but something happened before the new season starts and she plans to disguise as her twin brother and this is when everything falling into a place where she never thought it will just be more than playing a hockey and being one of the elite teams.
What makes me love reading Just One of the Boys?
Other than having a She's the Man vibe in there, I love how both of the authors portray Alice's character in this book. She just doing an amazing job in playing hockey, doing her tricks, utilizing her skills. In addition to that, she is also nailed in figure skating! In short, she just has great skill on the ice. Girl, you are amazing!
The relationship between Alice and Hayden starts from being in enemy zone develop into a friendship thing and when Hayden realize who the real AL (Alice) is..well, it sort of developing a new relationship between the two of them. It's really sweet. You know enemy to friends to a lover.
There are many things that I love from Just One of the Boys and it is hard to not mention here. An amazing girlfriend who is very supportive and being there no matter in what situation and then, of course, as you can see the book cover itself said about being at the ice rink meaning it will always take place at the ice rink - everything starts from there. Also, Chicago Falcon's teammates? They are wonderful. A good teammate and amazing hockey player and friends, of course.
Overall, Just One of the Boys manages to put many emotions in me when I'm reading 'em. I felt annoyed with Alice's ex-boyfriend, happy, giggling, heartache seeing what happened when the truth comes out and lastly, I'm satisfied with the ending but I kind of wanting more. Because I want to know the reaction of the coach when he knows the truth. So, if you enjoy reading a book that about a girl who loves ice hockey more than anything and there is a boy who hates he from the start but miracles do happen then I think the book would be wonderful things for you.
Have you watched She's the Man or Coffee Prince? If you have, what do you think about them? Also, what do you think about this book?
Based on the synopsis, the book really gives the vibe of She's the Man. I love She's the Man so, I may like this book as well if I get a chance to read it :)
