Synopsis
They rip, they tear, they FEED, and you never come back again.
Here’s how last year’s Gypsy Cob Music Festival should have gone. Lenora “Lenny” Ragno was supposed to rock her duet with her long-time crush, Jeb, during the open-mic competition. Then, swept up in the glow of success, he’d finally kiss her. Instead, Lenny choked on stage and spent the whole year dodging him online. And avoiding playing her fiddle in public. She thought her worst nightmare was behind her, but she was way wrong.
Now, she’s back at Gypsy Cob where avoiding a public performance is about as impossible as hiding from Jeb. She thinks facing him will be the scariest part of the festival, but when one of their friends talks everyone into trying astral projection, Lenny catches the eye of a demonic entity that marks her as its own.
Now, whenever it wants, the demon can pluck Lenny from her reality and transport her to a hellish between-world, haunted by its countless, gruesome victims. If she doesn’t want to become one of them, she must discover the nature of the demon’s hold on her and remove it. But how can she defeat a literal demon when she can’t even get over her personal ones?
I have to tell you that I did stop for a couple times when reading Broken Chords. Before you start your assumption, let me clear it all first - No, it was not because boring or what BUT it was because it is a horror genre and I have kind of goosebump when reading it.
We are talking about your body and your soul was separate. Get that?
Anyway, Lenora "Lenny" Ragno has attended this Gypsy Cob's Music festival which she should have performed with her long-time crush but she didn't because eventually she's choked on stage during the open mic-competition. Thus, she has been avoided her crush all year long. But not too long because she is back again to Gypsy Cob's Music except this new year wasn't about her choked stage.
- One of Lenny's friend has been persuading everyone to try an 'ASTRAL PROJECTION'.
- Astral Projection is where you were having an experience of an out-of-your-body moment in which your soul has been out of your body. I just knew that term when I'm reading Broken Chords.
It's about the fact that you and I were in a different plane of existence last night. A plane where demon creatures crawl through the dirt and Feeders eat your soul.
The author has succeeded in written a thorough and detailed story about the whole situation when Lenny's soul is out-of-her-body where Lenny meets all the creature in that between world and I have to say that it was the creepiest thing ever like you do understand there is our world which we live and there is another world which we can't see. The world building in this book was splendid. I can feel the spookiness in that Astral Realm that has lots of creatures and demons were everywhere.
In another way, Jessica Bayliss has also made the story balance with the real world that involves their friends, family and music also the other world which what Lenny has to experience. It feels surreal and I still remember the story clearly in my mind.
The ending of the book was definitely intense! I literally start to nag a bit (in a low voice, of course) saying - "Come on, you got to do something to help her!!'. So, yeah.
Anyhow, I'm so glad, Jessica Bayliss has contacted me and offered me to read her book which was absolutely a wonderful reading and I do enjoy a YA horror that balance with a romance between Lenny and Jeb also with music and family and friends.
If you are a fan of horror story, I should suggest you reading Broken Chords by Jessica Bayliss. It wasn't only it is horror but you're going to experience a new creepy world within.
Jessica Bayliss is a fiction author with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology who loves all things reading and writing. Her work crosses genres including romance, urban fantasy, and horror. Although it's typically advisable to focus on one audience, Jessica just can't seem to settle down; she writes Middle Grade, Young Adult, New Adult and (eh hem) regular adult fiction. She is a member of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
Because one cannot live on writing alone, Jessica also spends a great deal of time with friends and family. She is a lover of all animals especially one very special Havanese and one extremely ornery cockatiel. She also loves to cook, eat, and exercise (it's all about balance, right?) and is a firm believer that coffee makes the world a better place.
This seems interesting, I used to research about that astral projection, it was like a dream, where our soul walk consciously. :D well when you say about goosebump im totally in. But where can I get copy of them?
