Synopsis
“A fresh new fantasy of an enchanting world.” – Wendy Orr, author of Nim’s Island and Dragonfly Song. When fifteen-year-old Esme Silver objects at her father’s wedding, her protest is dismissed as the action of a stubborn, selfish teenager. Everyone else has accepted the loss of Esme’s mother, Ariane – so why can’t she? But Esme is suspicious. She is sure that others are covering up the real reason for her mother’s disappearance – that ‘lost at sea’ is code for something more terrible, something she has a right to know. After Esme is accidentally swept into the enchanted world of Aeolia, the truth begins to unfold. With her newfound friends, Daniel and Lillian, Esme retraces her mother’s steps in the glittering canal city of Esperance, untangling the threads of Ariane’s double life. But the more Esme discovers about her mother, the more she questions whether she really knew her at all. This fresh, inventive tale is an ideal read for younger teens.
A magical fantasy book that has a power of love of a daughter for her mother whom gone missing but she believe that her mother is Alive and put her in a mission to find her.
Right from I read the synopsis, it definitely has made want to dive into the story and there it is, I was right, it is one ofgood fantasy book I have read in this 2018. Before I say way too much here, let's get through a little bit about this WITHOUT ME SPOILING IT TOO MUCH.
So,
Let me put in short what is Esme's Wish is about. Esme's mother is mysteriously missing when she was still a kid and everyone including her father believe her mother is already dead but if she dead where is her body and what is the proof? So, when her father decided to get married again to Penelope, Esme decided to on a journey to find her mother until she slips into another world (Esperance City) that nobody in her would ever believe about it. She slips into a magical world where she sees people live with the dragon in harmony and people can breathe under the water and then, she discovers that she has a GIFT.
My Thoughts
Esme's Wish is an exciting young adult magical fantasy that I am looking forward to and that has not disappoint me. The magical place that describes wonderfully by the author is something that has caught my heart to devour it as soon as I can.
The magical world is well developed and it really that good that I feel I can see Esperance's world through my own eyes as though I was there the whole time when I'm reading. It does feel a little bit like in Harry Potter's world- well, we are talking about a secret portal, what can I say?
I have to say this but it does not mean it affected my love over the book. Here we go. The first few pages were a little bit slow but as soon as I start to flip the next and next pages, the progress of the story comes to much better and better and better until the end of the book except when it comes to a certain scenes, it ended a bit too quickly that it feels like I have not yet fully grasp the whole scene.
As for the characters - Esme - She has a strong, unfearful and determination to solve the mystery of her mother and when something happened to her, she didn't afraid to face it. I can feel the calmness in her facing the whatever circumstances/problem that waiting for her also we can see Esme's character growth progression throughout the story.
Also, the other two characters, Lilian and Daniel - Both of them are the kind of friends that I have been waiting for my whole life. They always there when Esme is in trouble and try to find a solution together and we can feel the bond and love between the three of them in this story. They are very helpful and very much a reliable friend.
Anyhow, Elizabeth Foster's writing is remarkable with the powerful vocabulary that she used (hey, I learn many new words in this book!) are absolutely great and also very easy to understand and I love how the author describes the Esperance City, the dragon, the place & characters - it just great! It is very well written and me as a reader is certainly enjoying my reading.
Definitely looking forward to the next series of Esme's magical journey!

Elizabeth Foster read avidly as a child, but only discovered the joys of writing some years ago, when reading to her own kids reminded her of how much she missed getting lost in other worlds. Once she started writing, she never looked back. She’s at her happiest when immersed in stories, plotting new conflicts and adventures for her characters. Elizabeth lives in Sydney, where she can be found scribbling in cafés, indulging her love of both words and coffee.
