Nothing is more important than loyalty.
But what if you’ve sworn to protect the one you were born to destroy?
Tarisai has always longed for the warmth of a family. She was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as The Lady. The Lady sends her to the capital of the global empire of Aritsar to compete with other children to be chosen as one of the Crown Prince’s Council of 11. If she’s picked, she’ll be joined with the other Council members through the Ray, a bond deeper than blood.
That closeness is irresistible to Tarisai, who has always wanted to belong somewhere. But The Lady has other ideas, including a magical wish that Tarisai is compelled to obey: Kill the Crown Prince once she gains his trust. Tarisai won’t stand by and become someone’s pawn—but is she strong enough to choose a different path for herself?

Tarisai was raised in an isolated place; she never leaves her mansion at all. Her mother was absent throughout her life. She rarely met her mother - The Lady. All her life she wants to feel love, to belong to someone who cares for her. At her mansion, she was raised and taught by the people hired by her mom for Tarisai. When the right time comes, she has been sent by The Lady to the capital of the global empire to compete to be part of the Crown Prince's council. Her mother has one mission for her.
Raybearer is not a normal fantasy that I have been read before. It was different, the storyline was really complicated for me to understand. I get lost a few times throughout reading this book but get back on track quite easily. All characters in this are connected to one another which you need to take your wonderful time to absorb each of the characters and the storyline for you to be understood the whole of it. Despite the complicated story, the story was crafted beautifully and makes you intrigued by it and the curiosity in you rises up.
Each of the people in the Crown Prince's council has its own powers, so do, Tarisai. What is her power? That is for you to find out. I won't spill out anything to save you for reading any more spoilers of this book. It was an amazing experience reading a high fantasy book. One thing for sure, Tarisai is a strong woman. She fights for justice, for the unfairness of the people's experience. But first, she needs to find the purpose of her life. Only then, the road will open wide for her.
Overall, Raybearer is a spectacular story makes you crave it. I enjoy my time reading this book despite slip out here and there a bit but that ain't going to stop me from continuing my reading. It was a great story. Very recommended.
Get your own copy of Raybearer once the book is available at bookstores on April 14th, 2020.
