Step into a world of secrets, folklore and illusions, where nothing is as it seems and magic is at play…

Madame Augustina Pinchbeck, travels the country conjuring the spirits of dearly departed loved ones... for a price. Whilst her ability to contact ghosts is a game of smoke and mirrors, there is real magic behind her tricks too - if you know where to look.

Through a magical trade, she persuades children to part with precious objects, promising to use her powers to help them. But Pinchbeck is a deceiver, instead turning their items into enchanted Cabinets that bind the children to her and into which she can vanish and summon them at will.

When Pinchbeck captures orphan Leander, events are set into motion that see him and his new friends Charlotte and Felix, in a race against time to break Pinchbeck’s spell, before one of them vanishes forever…

#TheVanishingTrick

A historical adventure with a magical twist from an outstanding debut talent. Perfect for fans of Michelle Harrison, Sophie Anderson, and Emma Carroll.

thoughts

The Vanishing Trick is a magical yet dark and twisty story that most people will enjoy reading. That being said, a middle grade will love the story as much as they can with these amazing plot.

The story is very much straight forward with a sprinkle of unexpected twist in the story. It was great to be part of the journey with these fellow young children who have been taken by the villain woman. Through reading the story, it reminds me how my parents (and yours too) always told us not to talk to strangers and do not follow strangers. The Vanishing Trick is quite creepy to be honest knowing why and how the villain captures these innocent young children.

The Vanishing Trick is about 3 young children - Leander, Felix, and Charlotte who has been taken by Madame Pinchbeck and they have fallen into Madame Pinchbeck's spell. They cannot run far from her because their soul has been lock in the items they bring to her. In order to escape from Madame Pinchbeck, they need a thorough plan on how to break it and need to find the exact source to break the spell.

It took me only a few pages to get into the story to be enchanted into this dark magical story that you know you could not put it down. The story has written in such a straight forward, very well written, a fast-paced story and it also give you the creepy feeling, angry, sad and happy; all in one. I really enjoy the story right from the beginning. It was really exciting, well-written and the magical element is fantastic! Definitely recommended.

The book is available in all good bookstores on April 30th, 2020
