This funny and empowering story weaves together three classic fairytales into one new adventure with an unusual structural twist: Rumaysa is a Muslim girl who lets her hijab down from a tall tower in order to escape. Set in a magical version of South Asia, Rumaysa explores enchanted forests and dragon lairs, teaming up with Cinderayla and Sleeping Sara along the way to create a strong sense of sisterhood.
How should I start? I absolutely love this book so so much. It is seriously a fantastical book. There are 3 story interconnected with one another which are Rumpelstiltskin (I thought it is a Rapunzel before this until I google about it!), Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty but the author crafted the stories into a Muslim characters and modernized the story. Did I forget to mention, Aladdin minus the djin. Only with his flying carpet.
I thoroughly enjoy Radiya Hafiza's writing. Her story is so mesmerizing, easy to connect with the characters, and love the setting. The story is light-hearted, whimsical and smart. I am captivated from the beginning until end of the book. It is so hard to put the book down. I love how the author shows that woman too are competent in saving for herself and be brave no matter what circumstance you are in. I love the Muslim representation in this book. A hijab girl who is strong, never look down on people, work together, find the best solution together and brave! It is seriously a great book. I definitely recommend this to you. Do pick this book up when you see this at the bookstore!
