Review
I simply did not realize the story is a modern classic fairytale retelling because I didn't read the blurb. What I thought at first was only a mystery/thriller that happened at school. It is a shockingly enchanting story.
It was told in multiple POV - 4 people (Ella, Yuki, Rory, and Nina) to be exact and it was easy to grasp into the story despite multiple POVs. The story follows after the mysterious death of their best friend, Ariane. It was a shocking mystery to what had happened to their best friend which the police has ruled as a suicide but they refuse to accept that. Now, with the new girl, Nina enters the frame, the four of them start to discover a more sinister happened at their school.
To be honest, I think the pace in the first few chapters was quite slow I mean I didn't realize it was a fairytale retelling until Ella mentioned it and then there was a magical element shown in here from Yuki but I think it doesn't develop much because I think it was sudden. Despite the slow pace, I was quickly engrossed with the story as it goes further and my curiosity keeps me on the ground to know what will happen next. In short, it is a page-turner and unputdownable read. Although I think there's a lot of question is left unanswered in which I hope in the next installation, will explain lots of them.
I like that it was told in multiple POVs so that makes it easy to get to know each of the characters. I mean each one of them has a secret of their own and is complicated. I felt Yuki's magical element was not developed much and her magic was so sudden. Overall, I enjoy the dark mystery with fairytales retelling. That absolutely fascinated me the most. Definitely, looking forward to reading next in the series.
