The hardcover is magnificent! I love the illustrations, both on the book cover and the dusk jacket. It's so beautiful that I can't stop admiring it. The Midnighters is a story that follows Ema, who was born into a family of scientists with various fields of expertise, from her parents to her siblings. She is the twelfth born child, and she has to find her own special scientific ability. Ema always feels like she is the odd one in the family, and she finds that she has different passions from her family. She was dismissed by the headmistress to enter the school because the headmistress could not accept her intuition and read people's faces as a scientific ability. Her parents have to go on a research expedition, so she has been sent to stay with her uncle in Prague. There she meets Sylvie, and they become best friends. However, one day, Sylvie went missing, and therefore, Ema went on an adventure to rescue Sylvie. In which she discovers a mysterious organisation with magical abilities.
I am enticed by the whole plot, especially the mysterious organization, the Midnight Guild, and I am excited to explore, go on a rescue mission, and uncover the truth together with Ema. Ema's ability is special; her intuition is always accurate. I love how she never gives up with her ability to be strong and not be afraid to try. Sylvie really matched as a good friend of hers as they shared the same traits, although with different characteristics. The Midnighters has a fascinating plot with a magical, imaginative, and whimiscal story. As you go deeper into the story, your curiosity grows. It's truly unputdownable, and it's a lot of fun to read! When the story adds the murder mystery, it becomes even more intriguing. Hana Tooke has written a wonderful story that makes you wonder who has dunit.
