Synopsis

When the Princess of Nova accidentally poisons herself with a love potion meant for her crush, she falls crown-over-heels in love with her own reflection. Oops. A nationwide hunt is called to find the cure, with competitors traveling the world for the rarest ingredients, deep in magical forests and frozen tundras, facing death at every turn.

Enter Samantha Kemi - an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. Sam's family were once the most respected alchemists in the kingdom, but they've fallen on hard times, and winning the hunt would save their reputation. But can Sam really compete with the dazzling powers of the ZoroAster mega pharma company? Just how close is Sam willing to get to Zain Aster, her dashing former classmate, and enemy, in the meantime?

And just to add to the pressure, this quest is ALL OVER social media. And the world news.

No big deal, then.

thoughts

The first thing that drew me to pick this book is, I think you know what is it - book cover! Yeap! Not going to deny it because the book cover is so cute with those bright color on it, I just can't help myself to immediately pick up the book and put it in my basket. Please, don't tell me you, did not do that too.

Anyhow, despite having this cute book cover, unfortunately, it does not appeal to me that much. However, the premise of the book is without a doubt is interesting as it is about magical fantasy in a modern day, they have their own version of Facebook which is Connect and you know, having this extraordinary talent to make a potion to cure a princess, doesn't it sounds cool? For me, it is a lovely story.

Let me briefly talk about the story, so it started when Princess Evely created a love potion herself somehow the potion does not drink by the right person instead she accidentally, drink the love potion! Thus, the King has called out all alchemist to create a potion that could help to cure her daughter illness. The hunts begin with many obstacles that all alchemists have to face it.

Sam Kemi, she has a talent for creating potions as her family from one generation to another are amazing in creating amazing potions. Sam Kemi is not afraid to accept any obstacles, she is very determined to develop a love potion that could cure the princess also she is very close to her family and has an amazing best friends by her side.

The Potion Diaries is a sweet and adventurous story following the hunt that order by the King. I enjoy the story as it was light reading. It just that I felt like the romance between Sam Kemi and the guy name, Zain whom his father has a big company that produced potions and very close to the royal family - the romance between both of them, I could not find any sparks, I don't know, it just felt awkward maybe in the next series we can get that sparks, hopefully. Overall, I did enjoy my time reading The Potion Diaries though maybe the story might be appeal more to you than me!
